Surya Dev is perhaps one of the most ancient gods to be worshiped in Hindu religion. Souram is the sect devoted to Lord Surya among the sic sects introduced by Adi Shankaracharya. Sun God is believed to be the most powerful God controlling all the other movements. Shani Dev is the son of Surya Devta. Surya is considered to be an aspect of Shiva and Vishnu by Shaivites and Vaishnavas respectively.

According to Hindu scriptures, Surya is believed to be a red man with three eyes and four arms riding a one-wheeled chariot and being pulled by seven horses. The Vedic texts describe him as the God of Light. Worshiping Surya Dev is very simple. He is pleased with a simple namaskar. Many even offer him water and Surya Dev is highly satisfied with that. People believe that Surya has a lot of healing powers. In fact it has also been proved scientifically that Sun has a rich source of Vitamin D which is good for the bones.
