Significance of Mahaveerji Fair

The fair is held in honour of Shri Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara in Jainism, whose sacred image is enshrined at the Mahaveerji Temple. The origin of the idol is tied to a local legend that it was discovered by a leather worker on Devta-Ka-Tila hillock and later installed in the temple. Over time, this site has grown into a devotional hub where thousands of visitors gather to pay tribute and seek blessings.

Rituals and Traditions

The fair blends deep religious rituals with cultural activities:

• Prakshalan (Cleansing Ritual): Each morning the sacred image of Mahaveerji is ceremonially washed and purified by priests, followed by worship and offerings.

• Ashta Argha: Devotees participate in this tradition of offering eight kinds of sacred items, such as rice, sandalwood, saffron, flowers, and dry fruits to the deity.

• Rath Yatra: The most anticipated event of the fair is the grand procession on Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya, where the idol of Mahaveerji is placed on a golden chariot and taken to the Gambhiri River’s bank for a special ritual. Devotional hymns and chants fill the air during this pilgrimage.

• Evening Aarti: As dusk falls, the temple comes alive with lamps of pure ghee and devotional aarti, creating a serene and sacred atmosphere.

• By Road: Regular buses connect Jaipur, Hindaun, and the Mahaveerji area. Local transport options such as buses or tongas are available from nearby towns.
