Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – a Freedom Fighter’s Biography
One of India’s greatest freedom fighter, social leaders and statesmen, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Gujarat. While his father served in the army of the Queen of Jhansi , his mother was a very spiritual woman. He completed his law studies from England in 1913 and though he got many lucrative offers from the British Government he rejected all offers as he was totally anti-British.
After a meeting with Mahatma Gandhi, he became a strong believer in his philosophies and started following him. One of Sardar Patel’s important movement against the British was No Tax campaign that urged the farmers not to pay their land. His efforts to bring the farmers together earned him the title Sardar. He also participated in the salt Satyagraha called by Mahatma Gandhi and was imprisoned in 1930. After he was freed a year later, he was elected as the President of Indian National Congress Party for its Karachi session.
Sardar Patel was so influenced by Mahatma Gandhi that though other popular leaders like Nehru, Chakravarthi Rajagopalachari and Maulana Azad slightly criticized Mahatma Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement, he strongly supported it.

After some tough measures, Sardar Patel was successful in securing the accession. The state of India what we see today is therefore very much due to the efforts of Sardar Patel. He died on 15 December 1950 after suffering a massive heart attack.
