Events on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
The day will be celebrated by paying floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Patel Chowk, Parliament Street in New Delhi. One of the most important events on this day would be a Run for Unity in all important cities and towns of India by people from all across the society including students from colleges, National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS). In New Delhi, the run will take place from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath.
The Government has also decided on other programmes throughout the day to re-emphasize the need for national integrity, unity and strength of India. All government offices and public sector undertakings and institutions will take part in the Pledge taking ceremony. The evening will witness a March-Past by the Central Armed Police Forces, the Police, Home Guards, the NCC, NSS, Scouts and Guides on the streets of cities and towns who will also take the pledge.
Suitable instructions would be issued to schools and colleges to observe the day as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and students and teachers should take the pledge to maintain unity and integrity of the country.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – a Freedom Fighter’s Biography
One of India’s greatest freedom fighter, social leaders and statesmen, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Gujarat. While his father served in the army of the Queen of Jhansi , his mother was a very spiritual woman. He completed his law studies from England in 1913 and though he got many lucrative offers from the British Government he rejected all offers as he was anti-British.
After a meeting with Mahatma Gandhi, he became a strong believer in his philosophies and started following him. One of Sardar Patel’s important movement against the British was No Tax campaign that urged the farmers not to pay their land. His efforts to bring the farmers together earned him the title Sardar. He also participated in the salt Satyagraha called by Mahatma Gandhi and was imprisoned in 1930. After he was freed a year later, he was elected as the President of Indian National Congress Party for its Karachi session.
Sardar Patel was so influenced by Mahatma Gandhi that though other popular leaders like Nehru, Chakravarthi Rajagopalachari and Maulana Azad slightly criticized Mahatma Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement, he strongly supported it.

After some tough measures, Sardar Patel was successful in securing the accession. The state of India what we see today is therefore very much due to the efforts of Sardar Patel. He died on 15 December 1950 after suffering a massive heart attack.

- Bardoli Satyagraha (1928): His leadership in the Bardoli farmers' movement against increased taxes further solidified his reputation as a champion of farmers and the common people.
Post-Independence Contributions:
- Unification of India: As the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India, Patel played a crucial role in the integration of over 560 princely states into the Indian Union. His efforts ensured a unified and cohesive nation.
- Statue of Unity: In recognition of his pivotal role in unifying India, the Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, was inaugurated in Gujarat in 2018.
