The Foundation Day of the World Health Organization (WHO) April 7th is also observed as World Health Day and celebrated annually by the Organization, its Member of States and partners to raise the hot health issue of the year. Decision of designating April 7 as the World Health Day was made in the First World Health Assembly in 1948 and the First World Health Day was observed in 1950.
Every year a particular health issue is chosen as the theme for that very year and various events and programs based on that theme are planned world wide. Different events organized on World Health Day helps in increasing people’s awareness about that specific theme related to health and happy lives.
Various events will be planned around the globe with the campaign "1000 cities - 1000 lives" encouraging different cities for planning health activities and improving urban health in the developing world.
