Jaipur hosts several literary giants every year while giving farewell to winter. The atmosphere fills with the air of creativity in the beautiful ambiance of the majestic Diggi House. Described as the ‘greatest literary show on Earth’, the Jaipur Literature Festival is the world’s largest free event of its kind. Originally it was an initiative of the Jaipur Virasat Foundation, an NGO that works with Rajasthan’s musicians and craftspeople to preserve skills and promote economic livelihoods while protecting heritage.

The plethora of authors from India and abroad and literature enthusiasts is seen. The festival provides a platform for new ideas, new thoughts, and new perspectives to see and understand worldly issues. Literature is a powerful medium that can build and strengthen our social infrastructure.

Jaipur Literature Festival provides an opportunity to bring together world-class writers and artists from across continents, cultures, forms, and genres. Approximately 150 authors from every corner of the world attend the festival in a healthy mixture of East with West. The biggest plus point of the festival is that it is accessible to all at no cost.

Thousands of people including High Commissioners Ambassadors Cultural heads of International missions, and delegates from Mumbai, Calcutta, and Delhi attend the sessions and workshops held during the festival.  Publishers, students, and University professors also attend festivals to quench their thirst for literature. Usually, the crowd is composed of 30% international guests, 30% from the metro cities, and 40% from Jaipur itself.
