Dev Uthani Ekadashi

Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi or Kartik Ekadashi, is an important Hindu festival observed on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) of the lunar month of Kartik. It marks the end of the four-month period known as Chaturmas, during which many religious observances are followed.

The significance of Dev Uthani Ekadashi lies in the belief that it is the day when Lord Vishnu wakes up from his cosmic sleep (Yoganidra) after four months. Devotees observe this day with fasting, prayers, and rituals to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Married couples often perform rituals and prayers to seek marital bliss and harmony.

One of the important rituals on this day is the Tulsi Vivah (marriage ceremony of the Tulsi plant), which symbolizes the marriage of Lord Vishnu (in the form of Shaligram) to Tulsi (the sacred basil plant). This ceremony is conducted with great devotion in many households and temples.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi holds cultural and spiritual significance in various regions of India, and it marks the beginning of the wedding season in many Hindu communities.
