A Journey of Faith and Devotion

Observed Annually in the Months of Shravan and Bhadrapada

The Diggi Padyatra is one of Rajasthan's most significant and vibrant religious processions. Every year, lakhs of devotees undertake a spiritual journey on foot (Padyatra) from Jaipur to the town of Diggi, united by their unwavering faith in Lord Kalyan Ji.

The Legend of Lord Kalyan Ji

The yatra is dedicated to Lord Kalyan Ji, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The history of the temple in Diggi village (Tonk District) is steeped in ancient lore:

  • The King’s Cure: Legend has it that the temple was built nearly 6,000 years ago by King Digva. The King, suffering from leprosy due to a curse, heard a heavenly voice instructing him to install an image of Lord Kalyan Ji.

  • Miraculous Healing: Upon obeying the divine command and establishing the deity, the King was miraculously cured.

  • The Deity: The idol of Lord Kalyan Ji is uniquely crafted from shimmering white marble, drawing thousands who seek healing and spiritual peace.

The Sacred Route: From Jaipur to Diggi

The Padyatra is not just a walk; it is a multi-day spiritual odyssey spanning several key landmarks:

  1. The Starting Point: The journey begins at the Tadkeshwar Temple in Jaipur.

  2. Initial Stops: Devotees first head to the Moti Doongri Ganesh Ji Temple and then to the Sanga Baba Temple in Sanganer to seek blessings for their journey.

  3. The Mid-Way Trek: The procession halts at Madrampura for the first night. Over the next two days, the yatris cross Renwal and the Bandi River.

  4. The Final Stretch: After passing through Chausala on the fourth day, the yatra culminates on the fifth day at the magnificent Lord Kalyan Ji Temple in Diggi.

Significance of the Yatra

  • Healing & Hope: Known as the "Lord of Redemption," Kalyan Ji is visited by many who believe that participating in the yatra can cure diseases and bring relief from life’s hardships.

  • Massive Participation: This is the largest padyatra in the Dhundhar region, attracting an estimated 10 to 12 lakh pilgrims annually.

  • Diverse Devotion: The yatra sees participants of all ages—from young children to elders as old as 80—many of whom have been making this pilgrimage for over 30 consecutive years.

The Spirit of the Celebration

The atmosphere during the Diggi Padyatra is one of infectious joy and deep religious fervor:

  • Dance and Song: Throughout the long trek, devotees sing bhajans (devotional songs) and dance to the rhythm of traditional instruments, keeping their spirits high despite the physical toll.

  • Community Service (Langar): Local communities and volunteers organize "Langars" (community kitchens) and rest stops along the entire route, providing free food, water, and medical aid to the pilgrims.

  • A Sea of Devotion: The sight of thousands of devotees moving in unison, carrying colorful flags (dhwajas), is a powerful testament to the spiritual heritage of Rajasthan.

A Final Thought

The Diggi Padyatra is a beautiful display of human endurance fueled by divine faith. It transcends physical boundaries, bringing people together in a shared journey toward peace, healing, and gratitude.

Whether you are a pilgrim or an observer, the spirit of "Jai Kalyan Ji" resonates in every step of this sacred walk.
