When and How the Shekhawati Festival Is Celebrated

The Shekhawati Festival is celebrated every year in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, bringing the art, culture, rural life and heritage of this historic land into vibrant public display. Traditionally, the festival takes place over two to three days during the late winter or early spring months — typically around February or March — when the weather is cool and pleasant for outdoor programmes and cultural events.

In many editions, the festival has been observed around 12th to 15th February, transforming towns like Nawalgarh, Mandawa, Jhunjhunu and Sikar into lively venues of heritage walks, folk performances, craft exhibitions and rural games.

In recent years, special versions such as the Shekhawati Utsav have also been organised during late March, with major events held on 22nd and 23rd March in places like Sikar’s Urban Haat — featuring cultural evenings, traditional competitions and folk art performances.

This timing — in late winter to early spring — offers a comfortable climate for visitors to enjoy:

  • Heritage walks through frescoed havelis

  • Folk music and dance shows

  • Traditional rural sports and competitions

  • Art, craft and cuisine experiences

  • Cultural education activities for youth and families

Across editions, the Shekhawati Festival remains flexible to seasonal planning and local schedules, but February and March have become the most widely recognised months for showcasing the region’s cultural wealth each year.
