The fast or festival of Karva Chauth possesses remarkable significance from cultural and social point of view. This is the most awaited festival for any North Indian married women, as they observe fast on this day for ensuring wedded bliss and well being of their husband. The festival also encourages gathering of all relatives and neighbors at one place for performing puja.
The spirit of the festival can easily be understood by the way women dress up in colorful attire with all jewelry and make up along with henna-decked hands and feet.
The fast is observed during the month of Kartik on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha (descending moon). This generally falls in the month of October.
